It would appear Almunia was just the beginning. Along with him, Gavin Hoyte and a few of our reserves/youngsters (George Brislen-Hall, Sean McDermott, Rhys Murphy and scholars James Campbell and Jeffrey Monakana) have been shown the door, and talk has increased today about the likelihood of a lot of our “deadwood” being sold off to make space in the squad.
It’s alleged that Chamakh could take his copious supply of hair treatments to Fiorentina. Nicklas ‘I am the greatest’ Bendtner is on Borrisia Dortmund’s radar, and they’re expected to bid for him somewhere in the region of £4m – perhaps he could be included in a deal for Kagawa?
Amongst the players also expected to leave, the combined talents of Squillaci and Denilson appear to be harder to find a new home. They both take home grossly inflated salaries, and neither has any real re-sale value. I’ve a feeling it could prove very difficult to find a willing club to take either, and I certainly doubt we’ll be able to command a fee. It may simply be easier to release them for free.
On the in-coming front, Arsenal have allegedly set their sights on Toulouse’s 23-year-old midfielder Etienne Capoue. For those of you unfamiliar, he’s widely tipped to be a excellent player, and Arsenal, Inter, Schalke and Barcelona have all made inquiries in the last year. He’s very physically imposing, too, and can play at the centre of defence as well as the holding role in midfield.
He joins M’Vila and Biglia on the list of potential new Arsenal players. 3 players I can’t say I know all that well, but from what little I’ve seen, all look like good signings. M’Vila is still the one I’d pick of the three.
That’s about it for today, folks. I’ve a few bits and bobs to attend to, so I shall make good my return tomorrow. Thanks for reading, you beautiful bastards. The comments await your thoughts, and my Twitter account awaits your kind follows – @_ArmchairGooner
