Arsenal’s biggest summer ever! No luck yesterday and biting criticism…

You just can’t take Luis Suarez anywhere these days…

Evening all, and welcome to today’s post, albeit a great deal later than I’d intended it to be. Nevertheless, I’m here now, so let’s get on with it, shall we…

Having just returned home, I’ve spent a little time familiarising myself with yesterday’s events. The results weren’t exactly as I’d hoped. Man City look very much a team beaten and with nothing to play for as they capitulated against Spurs. I had hoped they’d go there an sneak a win and do us a favour, but instead they saw fit to throw it away and giving more fuel to the cult of Gareth ‘Jesus’ Bale.

Elsewhere, the Liverpool – Chelsea game was at least a little more favourable, with Luis Suarez again proving that whilst he is undoubtedly a spectacular football player, he’s also a thoroughly deplorable human being. Quite what’s was going on in that peculiar, racist mind of his I’ll never know. Of course, Liverpool fans have tried their best to defend him, make all this out to be some sort of witch-hunt by a xenophobic media trying to destroy their club. They’ve come up with some bloody hilarious reasoning, and all…

As for the Arsenal, most news today is taken up with more stories of that alleged transfer kitty we’re sitting on. You know the one I mean; that grossly inflated figure that’s doing the rounds and changes on a weekly basis. Is it £60m, £70m, £80m, or £100m? Who knows, but if you are the type to belive what you read, then this summer could be very much a break from our traditional endeavours.

With such a reported figure at our disposal, the rumour mill will go into extreme overdrive. As I’ve stated before when addressing this subject, much will depend on the next four games. There’s a case to made for many of the players linked to us being a little less interested should we be playing in the Europa League. Until there’s finality with our current campaign, anything relating to the next is nothing more than idle speculation.

There could be a few departures if Wenger shakes up the squad as drastically as is alleged. Thomas Vermaelen, now 3rd choice in the pecking order, and Bacary Sagna would appear hot favourites to be allowed to depart for pastures new. Speaking of our Belgian captain, Arsene had these slightly cryptic words to say:

??Thomas is one of the best defenders in England, like the two others,?

??It??s a very difficult decision. I don??t see him as a substitute at all”

I’m sure Vermaelen himself doesn’t see his best position as on the bench, but I’d be hard pressed to make a case for his inclusion in the side ahead of either Mertesacker or Koscielny, a pairing that I think is now well established as our best. The two current incumbents compliment each other very well, and since his debut season, Thomas’ form has flattered to deceive for the most part.

And that’s about it. Expect a week of spurious creations in the press, until Sunday draws close and we can expect to hear a great deal about that Dutch prat and United’s inevitable title victory. That game is begining to grow larger and larger as it looms closer, and a win might be all the more necessary given the results yesterday. It’s sure to be an interesting week, and I shall return tomorrow with more.

In the meantie, hit the comments below and let me know your thoughts on yesterday’s games, Luis Suarez, Arsenal’s potential departures and incomings, and your hopes for the game on Sunday. I’ll look forward to reading a few.

As always, thanks for reading, you beautiful bastards.
