Gazidis, van Persie, Podolski, Biglia, Kagawa and…err… Prometheus.

David couldn't conceal his delighted watching what happened to Spurs after they were 2-0 up.

Good morning, fellow humans.

Last night I went to the cinema with my girlfriend. I love Ridley Scott, and I love the original Alien. You can probably imagine how much I looked forward to watching Prometheus. Seeing as this blog is about Arsenal, has a word associated with Arsenal in its name, and those of you reading want information about Arsenal; I’ll keep this little part here relatively short. Prometheus was hugely disappointing. Aside from the performance of the brilliant Michael Fassbender, I struggle to think of one redeemable feature it has. The whole thing was just ‘meh’.

I’ll move quickly onto Arsenal news, and the words spoken by Ivan Gazidis last night. He confirmed that no announcement will be made regarding Robin’s future until after the Euros. He also went further mentioning Lukas Podolski’s arrival, and the potential for more incoming players:

“The great thing about Lukas is that not only can he contribute goals, but he can also play in different positions so you get tremendous versatility and Arsenal class. He is technically a top-class player and that was a good early addition for us.

“The key for us is not the volume of signings we might make but that the signings we make add something to the squad. That is something Arsène [Wenger] thinks extremely carefully about and for all of the pressure he is placed under, he tends to make good decisions.”

I totally agree with the first part. Signing someone of the calibre of Podolski as early as we did was excellent business. In stark contrast to our performance last year, too. My only worry is that the saga of Robin’s contract is going to be allowed to rumble on through the summer months, causing endless speculation to fill our heads when all we want are simple answers.

In news that concerns the incomings, once again Anderlecht’s Lucas Biglia is finding himself heavily linked with Arsenal. From what I can gather, he’d be a good signing; a tough-tackling, energetic, combative holding player at the reasonable price of only £8m. With attention from quite a few clubs, it seems Biglia is all but certain to depart Belgium for a more competitive league. Whether that league be Spain or England remains to be seen – Real Madrid are the other rumoured suitors.

One player we certainly won’t be getting is Dortmund’s Shinji Kagawa. He’s agreed terms with Man United, and that deal is all but officially done. It’s a great shame. United have got themselves an excellent player, and I expect him to be a big success in the Premiership. He was always likely to end up at Old Trafford, and I think reports of our interest were little more than a smokescreen.

News is, again, at a premium today. The Euros are only a few days away, so at least we’ll all have some football to watch and a few potential targets to mull over. I still hold high hopes for this summer to be a productive one. There still remains plenty of time to get our business done before pre-season. I’m sure we won’t have anything to complain about come that time…

Thanks for reading today, you beautiful bastards. Drop me a comment with your opinions on signings, Gazidis’ words and Prometheus – if you’ve seen it.

Arsenal, well i have long since stopped worrying about who we buy, but this season i am starting to get interested again. One thing i must say is, SEND Ramsey on loan for 3 or 6 months, so he can get playing time, then he will develop, for at the moment he is a liabibity for AFC, when he comes on the field, i fear up until the final whistle.
I think/hope our long years of nothing ends next season, the club is stable, the core of the team is getting there, we have players comfortable in multiple positions, (needed with the amount of injuries we seem to get), and even if RVP goes i still think AFC is on the rise again.

Prometheus, havent seen it, probably will not see it either. Since a few years i have realised that films are not good anymore, no body ventures into new ideas, they keep repeating the same old “crap”.

James Cameron, Danny Boyle, Guy Ritchie’s reinvention of Holmes. The whole Marvel world is in my opinion bringing the comic book world to screen in a way that all other attempts have failed to do (except Watchmen, that was like reading the graphic novel but with moving pictures 😉 ). The Steig Larsson Millenium adaptations. There are loads of films out there that are just plain awesome but it seems that the shit tends to get the bulk of viewers which just gives studios more excuses to make shit films. They make what makes them money.

Are you actually saying Marvel films are good? please let me have read that wrong…Ironman, Spiderman (esp 1 & 3) and Fantastic Four: Silver Surfer are 3 of the worst movies i’ve ever seen. Marvel is a joke. vomit. embarrasment.
          …i think we have digressed…

You are obviously heavily into comic books. For the most part I thoroughly enjoyed all those films you mentioned and i’m sure that the majority of viewers will agree with me.

Yes i am into GOOD comics, not boring marvel, good guys always win garbage.
well i guess thats cause people have no taste…They are just a repeat of themselves…so boring and mainstream no story line except the same generic regurgitated abysmal plot.
The Dark Knight Returns now that was a serious comic book movie. One of the only comic interpretations that i would say is a success. 5-star.
p.s. James you have swayed my decision. I think i am going to boycott Prometheus. Absolutely love Alien & Aliens and Ridley Scott but they have been beating that horse for way too long and it dies years ago…LET GO GUYS

The Marvel Studios films (as far as comic book films go) are actually quite good. Other films based on Marvel characters such as Spiderman, the first Hulk, X-Men, Fantastic 4 etc were rubbish. The Marvel Studios films are quite true to the comics and all tie in together quite well. Most comic book adaptations are crap (except Watchmen, that was pretty much word for word, scene for scene) and films based on comics that appeal to comic fanboys as much as the general public such as Nolan’s Batman have removed the whole comic book feel and replaced it with a more believable action genre type film.

I quite like Iron Man but that is more to do with Robert Downey Jnr. That guy is awesome.

Just sell rvp and move on, yes he saved our bacon that year but if you balance his contribution over 8 seasons then it aint that impressive. Besides he,s 29 next month, sell him abroad and bring in giroud and doumbia, i aint seen at much of em bar them clips on youtube but both look top quality, doumbia reminds me a lot of a young samuel eto while at big lad giroud lad looks like the type of forward we,ve been crying out for, someone who wont get bullied by vidic and co. and here, he might even score us a few headers from corners!!! Promethius wtf is that all about? I actually couldnt wait till it finished, biggest lot of bollicks!! It reminded me of Allien without the action or the good bits.

We need mvilla or biglia. Loan out frimpong or coquelin + cash to get either mvila or biglia. Then one more defender and a sub goalie. Bring back bendtner because, obviously, wanting another striker is probably asking too much. Sell chamahk, park, squid, almunia, deni, djourou, fabianski, arshavin and walcott (if he asks more, this isn’t oliver twist) we need rvp. Pay him 150 he deserves it. Hey whatever haPpened to signing martias suarez?? Still I think we’ll win a trophy next year. Which one remains uncertain but the right players and a water tight squad and it could be the PL or CL. Just 3 new players or 4 incase walcott or rvp decides to bolt. Cheers. About that movie, the title doesn’t exactly inspire interest unlike say IMMORTALS. Okies but that’s just me

Gazidis is talking bull now… he was quiet and talking bull all the time too, he even said Arsenal is prepared for life without Europe.

Why only speak now? AST meeting very very soon!!!

If Arsenal wants to sign a player, it could be done in just a few days, as seen with many other clubs and deadline day last season.

Actions speaks louder than words, Gazidis…. stop smoking.

I seriously think this Biglia talk is nothing but self promotion. “Arsenal and Real have been in contact”. they said the same thing last year…and there has still be no moves…not buying it at all.

Being optimistic is one thing.the main factor is that the guv and the whole frreaking board are flippin interested in the numbers instead of what we as true gooners crave for, which is forever lasting success.the new stadium came as a curse or with ambition and drive,a blessing.man,i still remember the old highbury days when we used to have david dein being the integral part of the club and team.when we wanted to be something, when we could even have the swag of buying the likes of the sol cambells of this world from the very much despised hamburgers.the teams we used to clobber heavily, like tottenham, chelsea etc a now more competetive than us now.where did we go wrong i ask?

Boro were once linked with Olivier Giroud. He chose to go to Montpellier and now might go to Arsenal. Stupid Strachan chose Killen\/Miller
