Arsenal’s starting XI against Pulis and his feculent Orcs (match preview)

Saturday Feb 2nd; FA Premiership, Stoke City (h)

Morning folks.

Quick one today – I’ve a busy day ahead.

Mikel Arteta is expected to return today from injury – good news. Of the main team news, most are wondering if we’ll be seeing Nacho Monreal feature. Our new Spaniard signed on Thursday was a real surprise to me. I would have happily betted valuable parts of my anatomy on Arsenal not bringing in a new face. I was wrong.

Given Andre Santos’ recent poor performances, and Gibbs’ injury now expected to keep him out for the next 6 weeks, it goes to show that when necessity is there, our manager does know how to act. Sure, we perhaps could have used another player to bolster ranks, but I’m not going to get into that. We got a new left-back, a Spanish international, and although I don’t know too much about him, he’s said to be a very handy player by those that do.

I expect him to start today against Stoke. Away from home, Pulis’ bunch of hoofy cretins don’t tend to be as much of a threat, and their recent defensive record isn’t as good as it has been in the past.

I expect Arsenal to line-up as follows:

We should win today. Set pieces and balls pumped into our box represent the greatest threat, but if we can establish our attacking game and perform before we go 1 or 2 goals down, I see nothing more than a comfotable victory today. I’ll opt for the ballsy prediction of 3-0 to the Arse.
