The Armchair Gooner

An Arsenal blog bringing you news, opinion and humour on a daily basis. Well, I'll try at the very least…

Thierry’s off, and not really much else.

Thierry Henry; perilously close to an untimely demise…

Evening folks!

Yes – I’m late with my post today. One of the things I’ll be doing in the new year is making a set-time for every post. Every day (hopefully) my blathering will appear at 9am (GMT). I’ll be competing with Arseblog and Le Grove at that time, but why not set my sights ridiculously high?

Elsewher in news there is, well… Not a great deal of anything. It seems the post-Christmas malaise has well and truly hit. Usually, such eerie silence is filled with the cacophonous howls of fabricated stories from spurious Twitter accounts and hit-hungry websites churning out dross with come-and-look titles like, “ARSENAL MUST SIGN THIS £30M STRIKER TO SAVE THEIR SEASON”.

Instead, we’re left with little or anything of note. Instead, you’re left with me trying to think how I’m going to fill up a post without resorting to talking complete nonsense.

Thierry Henry won’t be coming in January, and that’s been confirmed by some quotes attributed to Arsene Wenger. I think that’s a good thing. Thierry is a wonderful player still, and I love him to bits. But we need a striker, and a permanent signing makes more sense.

And that’s about it. I feel this post is like those moments after sex when you’re not quite sure what to say. All I want to do is fart, then go to sleep. But I don’t want you to feel like I don’t care – perhaps we can enjoy a quick cuddle? That wouldn’t hurt.

On that note, I shall leave you for today.

More tomorrow!

James, did you hear about the Arda Turan link? Apparently there might be something to this because apparently a deal has been done (dunno if it is for summer or for Jan) the thing that seperates this from all of the other stuff is that apparently Arda has been asked directly about going to Arsenal and he is refusing to comment which i find intruiging.

My thinking is since he can play CAM and on the wings also is that Wenger will move Podolski centrally and put Cazorla/ Turan where he is currently playing and may will think of getting another striker in the summer……….Getting Turan means that we can rotate CAM and wing positions better.

Also thinking of what wenger said as regards Gervinho and the ACON which makes me think there is something to this…..he said that when gervinho goes we will be a player short and when he comes back he ideally wants to rest him……….so maybe wenger is thinking of his position that needs extra help.

Arda turan is the sort of winger we need he is quick and can get past players, create chances ,and put some good crosses in, get him along with Capoue or diame and we r ready for bayern

I hadn’t heard that rumour. I’m not all that familiar with the player, either.

Thanks for making me aware of it, and sharing your thoughts.

      Much appreciated!

No probs, I am shocked you are about the 3rd person now that i have seen saying they haven’t heard of him………….the guy is pretty damn good! He is like a slightly slower version of Isco but more experienced and (my opinion) more creative i would say the closest i can think of describing him is like Rosicky before he became Rosicknote…………but more powerful on the ball. If we get him i would be very happy the guy is brilliant, best thing you can do i guess is youtube him, basically put…..this is the guy that supplies the ammo for Falcao to fire, he is pretty special!!

Turan does look good. And I’d love to see Isco or Erikson. One aboard. But so long as we get another strikers for starting/depth im happy. Give me Ba, Llorente or some dark horse and im more comfortable with the season wrap up, but still would like silverw I’d love to see are. Also one more beast defender if we are to spend. I’d love to see hummels, etc come by. Somewone who can handle the speed in and strength in the premier league. Thoughts?

    I think that??s a good thing. (HENRY)

how can you say that, i dont want but i mast to ask are you retard ?

what do you want to see low rank players that dont know how to fight run or shoot or i dont know….

do you want to see chamak, gervinho, girord

so shut up saying that not buying henry is good thing, in the first of all we shoudnt sell him, he was everything for arsenal, i know that if we didnt sold him now we wouldnt have to se RVP(the idiot), FAB, NAS, FLA in other teams, we dont need Henry for LOAN we need to BUY HIM.

WITH HIM IN THE TRAINING GROUND AND IN THE SUBS OR EVEN IN THE FIELD WE WILL BE 40% BETTER, WE WILL WIN 40% MORE GAMES.

HE CAN OUTPLAY ALL OF THE ARSENAL PLAYERS, HE IS WORLD CLASS PLAYER NOT SOME MID PLAYERS.

WHY WE DONT GIVE HIM THE SAME MONEY THAT NEW YOURK GIVEN HIM, WHY DONT MAKE HENRY PLAY FOR US TO HIS LAST GAME, HE HAVE ALWAYS SHOWN LOVE FOR US WHERE ARE WE TO SHOW HIM ARE LOVE TO HIM(THE BOARD AND WENGER).

BUY HENRY OR YOU ARE DONE (THE BOARD AND WENGER)

No, I want to see someone who isn’t 34 and won’t leave in February.

      It’s fairly simple.

Thanks for your lovely comment. I was really impressed with it. You took your time making your points, you expressed them beautifully, and didn’t once come across as a fucking moron. Well done.

This post is an unacceptable effort. Get your finger out James and make up for it tomorrow. :-D

Oh yes, on an Arsenal Blog, negative stuff about Thierry is folly. It matters not if you follow it up by telling us how much you love him to bits. The man is a universe above legend status and he could be 40 years old for all I care, I want to see him in the Red and White again. There is no way any player between January and March will try harder to score for Arsenal, will have more ability to score for Arsenal or be more likely to score for Arsenal. He is a lot fitter than he was this time last year and each time he returns, it’s one more chance he could see out the remainder of our season or even re-sign for us.

There is a couple of good seasons left in him and besides his contribution on the pitch, the gold gilding around his worth is particularly seen in the dressing room and in training sessions. There is nothing he hasn’t won and being an Invincible means he has won more than most, so to say you want to see somebody else is weird.

Let me put this another way:

I’d welcome Thierry back – of course I would. But if you gave me the choice between a temporary deal for him, and a permanent deal for some else, I’d choice the latter. Both would be good.

Yes, I knew what you meant from the original blog, it’s just that it’s folly to say anything negative about Henry, even if it’s the truth. I remember Liam Brady and Frank Stapleton, Liam in particular has always been thought of as a God like player, he was so ahead of his time, but Thierry Henry eclipsed him and the great Tony Adams as the greatest Gunner ever. It’s sacrilege to even write his name unless you are an Arsenal fan like us, but to say anything remotely negative about him, even when you are an Arsenal fan and naturally a Henry fan who does have the right to voice an opinion, it is unfathomably reckless. I just can’t imagine in any way how somebody could get away with it.

I bet if you give it a month or two and then Google Thierry Henry 34, your name is going to pop up making you look like a blasphemer. I was an Arsenal MOD on Rivals.net before it was shut down by SKY and I saw very little criticism of Henry, even from Spurs fans .. and never come across an Arsenal fan being critical. I probably have, but I can’t remember it.
