This is going to be a quick update because I’ve a busy, busy day ahead of me today. Well… when I say “busy”, I actually mean I’ll be going to meetings at work and that invariably takes up a lot of time without being either physically or mentally taxing, so “busy” may not be the appropriate word. ‘Occupied for a sustained period of time, gainfully’ would be more accurate.
Borussia Dortmund will decided today whether they’re going to sell Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang to Arsenal. It’s alleged the player has handed in a request for transfer to his employers and is actively looking to move to The Emirates. From what I initially assumed was total poppycock comes stories and reports that now have me believing it might actually happen. At this stage, barring something catastrophic, Alexis and Walcott will leave in January and if we replace those two with Aubameyang, Mkhitaryan and Malcom then it’s very good business – even if that business comes from poor contract management,
Okay, there are parts of the team that need to be addressed as well as our attacking options, but we can’t get everything all at once. In an ideal world, we’d bring in some solid defensive cover at the back and in midfield, but replacing Alexis without significantly weakening the team is the priority.
The other news – and I do think this is nothing more than sensationalist paper-talk – emerging has Chelsea scurrying about to make a late bid to snatch Alexis from under the nose of Mourinho. Whilst neither destination is particularly palatable, I would find it quite amusing if Conte managed to put one over Mourninho at the last minute, given the recent petulant squabbles between the two. Alas, I fear the story may be a wild fabrication by Sky – especially when they can start producing favourable odds on their betting service regarding Alexis’ destination.
By the end of the week, all this could be finalised and I hope it is sooner rather than later. The last thing we need is for the saga to drag on another couple of weeks and all parties find themselves scrambling around on deadline day. I’ve made peace with Alexis leaving now. I’m far more concerned with who we bring in and the signs are pretty exciting.
That’s all for today, folks.
I’ll be back tomorrow. Until that time, and as always; thanks for reading, you beautiful bastards.
