Norwich (h): thoughts, team news and predicted starting XI

Ozil was staggered by the site of Abou Diaby managing to walk unaided.

Morning, folks.

Today we may see the most glorious of sights; an Arsenal midfield that contains both Mesut Ozil and Santi Cazorla. If the very notion of seeing that doesn’t leave you salivating uncontrollably all over yourself, then, quite frankly, there must be something wrong with you. I’m so excited, I think I may have to issue myself a very strong sedative and sit in a darkened room.

Along with our boggle-eyed friend, who did pick up a small knock whilst on international duty with Germany, Bacary Sagna makes a welcome return from injury. Walcott, Podolski and Chamberlain are all still on the mend, but should be back soon.Unfortunately, it would appear there’s been another setback for Abou Diaby, who now may not see the light of day until March thanks to another surgery to correct a troublesome cruciate ligament problem.

I genuinely feel for him.

Some Arsenal fans, the more temperamental and poisonous amongst us, like to tell you Diaby is some sort of burden on the club, they’ll have you believe he’s useless and should be shipped out at the earliest opportunity. I disagree. Abou has had his career seriously jeopardised through absolutely no fault of his own.

Had that utter c**t playing for Sunderland at the time not shattered his ankle, take a moment to think of the player we’d have on our hands now – tall, imperious, skilful and strong. Diaby has all the attributes to be special. It’s such a shame that one terrible injury has been the root of so many further problems. I understand there will come a point when Arsenal must consider cutting their losses, but I feel he should be given every chance to overcome his problems. I would love nothing more than to see what Diaby could bring to the team if he could just stay fit for a season. Imagine that.

Norwich today is a game we should win comfortably – the type of game that often I worry about. Underestimating our opponents is not something we should ever do, but often the assumption of victory enters the minds.

I reckon Arsenal will line up like this:

Possible XI vs Norwich

3 points today is vital. These are the supposed “home bankers” that we must win if there is to be a legitimate challenge for the title. All those in compeition will certainly slip up and drop points at some point, so keeping our focus and form in the so-called ‘lesser’ fixtures is as important as winning the more prestigious games.

That said, I think we will win today, and win comfortably. I shall bravely opt for 3-1 to the Arsenal, and with a return goal from Santi to open the scoring. The comments below await your predictions on the game. Let me know how you think things will pan put.

I’m on podcasting duty for Goonersphere tomorrow, but will endeavour to post a delicious match review at some point. Until that time, thanks for reading, you beautiful bastards.

  1. Imagine if Diaby could stay match fit more often and perform like he did against Liverpool last season… That’d give some serious squad selection headaches to Le Prof…:D 🙂
